Walter Franklin ''Pete'' Shearin, Sr., 77, of Roanoke Rapids, died Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at Kindred Healthcare.

''Pete'' was a native of Roanoke Rapids, the son of the late Curtis Julian Shearin and Ola Allen Shearin. He was retired from Champion International Paper Company and the Army National Guard. Pete was a member of East 10th Street Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Bobbie P. Shearin; two sons, Walter Franklin Shearin, Jr. and his wife, Lori, of Bedford, Indiana and Steven Wayne Shearin and his wife, Jennifer, of Burgaw, NC; three grandchildren, Heather Overton and her husband, Michael, Jeremy Curtis Shearin and Kelsey Wade and her husband, Gary; two great-grandchildren, Jordan Michael Overton and Zachery Overton; his sister, Polly Burger and her husband, Ralph, of Henrico and his brother, Richard Shearin of Littleton.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 24, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Askew Funeral and Cremation Services with Minister Dave Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m., Friday until service time.

The flag in front of the funeral home flies at half-staff in honor of Mr. Shearin’s service to his country.
